1928 Plymouth 1937 Plymouth Plymouth: The First Decade

Livermore Tour, October 9, 2005

I did not count, but there must have been well over twenty cars that showed up for a joint club tour to Livermore. Participating clubs were the Foothill Region (AACA), Greater South Bay Region (Vintage Chevrolet Club), Santa Clara Valley Model T Ford Club, and the Golden State Region (Plymouth Owners Club).

In Livermore our first stop was at the Duarte Garage in Livermore. This garage was built to serve the early motorists who were venturing out on to the then new Lincoln Highway. The garage is now a Lincoln Highway museum run by the Livermore Heritage Guild (http://www.lhg.org/) and contains an interesting sampling of early automobilia.

After our short stop at the garage we headed south on L Street for a picnic at and a tour of the Ravenswood, the country estate of one time San Francisco political boss Christopher A Buckley. Now run by the Livermore Parks Department with the assistance of the Ravenswood Progress League, the restored buildings show a very interesting slice of late 19th and early 20th century life as lived by the well off.
