Saratoga Mustard Walk

Before the tech industry transformed the area into “Silicon Valley”, the nickname was “Valley of Heart’s Delight” and the pride and joy of each of the small farming towns was the spring display of flowers in the orchards that spread as far as the eye could see. Each year the City of Saratoga relives a little of that when the first “wild flowers” are seen in the little orchard next to the city hall. These flowers are from mustard plants that came with the cattle brought into California with the cattle the Spaniards brought from Spain.

A walk through the mustard plants (or ride on the donkey pulled farm wagon) will get you a glimpse of the buds on the fruit trees that will flower shortly. Live music from a number of local groups is played in a gazebo near a restored old house. Local artists display their wares. And, of course, a few old cars round out the scene. A the fellow that coordinates the old cars is a Plymouth man, there were more Plymouths there than Fords.
